StudentAid BC helps eligible students with the cost of their post-secondary education through loans, grants and special programs.
Federal grants (that do not have to be re-paid) are available for low/middle income families, nursing students, former youth in care, deaf students and students with disabilities. You are automatically assessed for eligibility for federal grants when you apply for a student loan through StudentAidBC.
Apply for your funding at least 2 months prior to the start of each semester. StudentAid begins taking applications in early June for the Fall.
A few other things to be aware of:
The BC STUDENT LOANS FORGIVENESS PROGRAM includes health occupations that work in under-served communities or work with children. Some examples include: audiologist, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
There is also the PACIFIC LEADERS LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM which "forgives" your loan at the rate of 1/3 for every year you work for the Provincial Government. Check it out!
...and finally: going into Skilled Trades? Have a look at the LABOUR MARKET PRIORITIES: You can earn up to $16,400 in foundation seat training which includes $500 for a new set of tools. 17 in-demand trade programs have been identified.
