Each post-secondary institution has a financial aid program, including scholarships and bursaries. A scholarship or award given to a student entering their first year of studies at a post-secondary institution is called an entrance award. You apply directly to the post-secondary institution. Check their website for information and application deadlines. You can usually locate information about entrance awards under the Financial Aid or Student Services tabs of the post-secondary institution's website.

In addition to entrance awards, post-secondary institutions also offer bursary programs to meet the financial needs of students. These programs typically open for application after you have been admitted to the college or university. Depending on the post-secondary institution, you typically apply for bursaries starting in August through October for the upcoming Fall semester. Use the summer to do some research! The Financial Awards Office of your post-secondary institution can help you apply for bursaries and other forms of financial aid (such as student loans). Don't hesitate to ask for their help.

If you're applying to UBC, you must complete a Personal Profile as part of the application process. Your application must be submitted prior to December 1st if you want to be considered for the UBC Major Entrance Awards; otherwise you can submit your application by January 15th.
The Personal Profile gives you the opportunity to tell UBC about the things that are important to you, your significant achievements, what you’ve learned from your experiences, and the challenges that you’ve overcome.
This information – along with your academic achievements – will be used to determine your admissibility to UBC and your eligibility for entrance scholarships and awards. Allow yourself ample time to complete the Personal Profile and click on the HELPFUL TIPS link below for some helpful pointers and suggestions.
